downloaded the game less than 24h ago, got obssessed, bought it for chapter 2 i am now unwell- This game is so good and I love everything from the visuals to the characters the sound design and i particulary wants to give a shoutout to the dev for putting an option to stop the game in case triggered / overwhelmed. That a small thing but it's genuinly very helpful and a nice help.
10/10 if you're unsure if it's worth buying now, it is !

Unfortunately, we don't have control over OBSCURA being blocked on Steam. Steam has decided OBSCURA has too much sexual content, and while don't agree with this decision they will not change it; we asked them to reduce the rating and they refused. Steam automatically blocks certain types of mature content on from being sold in China or Germany, which is why we're blocked. If it was our choice, we would lower the rating because we think it doesn't make sense.
Right now German and Chinese players can buy the game on itchio and get a Steam key that way, and the key does work like normal, we. We're trying to find other ways to get around the block, but there's not a lot of options available to us. We know that itchio doesn't work for everyone and we're sorry, but it's the best we can offer at the moment.
We're grateful to all the people who manage to get here to itchio given all the challenges you have to deal with to find it ❤️ Trust me, we want Obscura to be as easy to find and buy for the Chinese audience as possible and we're even more frustrated with Steam than you.
Your suggestion is something we considered to try and get a lower rating, but we think the thing that's getting the game a high rating in the first place is just Cirrus' route. Steam won't tell us if that would work unless we actually try it, and there are some problems that would come from putting a whole route (and one of the most popular ones) in DLC form, which makes this not really an option. We have some other plans in the works that may be able to solve this problem eventually, but none of them are quick solutions 😔

I am an abuse survivor. So I do not need any guide to get best ending for Cirrus. I did expirience something similar and I know how to keep yourself "safe" with such people. I want to hate Cirrus very much. But... what he does acatually helps MC. He actually never lied about helping MC. So I have to hate Kier instead. The fact that Cirrus is actually helping MC is causing me real mental distress.
You made a great story. It is not one dimentional. It is deeper than I expected. It is a realistic picture of abuse. And i am glad you got it right.

you can still download the demo for free, the first chapter is free, the thing you're paying for here is the second chapter and every other chapter after the second chapter when the devs finish them.
first chapter is for free while you can pay early for the game, pay now 15$ you won't have to pay again later for the full release.
Hey I just came here to say that the concept, writing, and art are great, and this is the least annoying an MC has ever been, and...yeah, I was sucked in the moment I saw Cirrus' character design, and I haven't regretted a moment since. So excited for more.

The builds are identical, the only difference for you is the platform you'll be using to download and play the game, and if you live in Germany or China the game is inaccessible on Steam due to laws around mature games. And since you can get a Steam key for the game here on Itch.io, you can buy once and get the game on both platforms.
We have no plans in selling different content on the two storefronts, either.
Hey there! I played the demo a while ago and absolutely loved the game. Unfortunately, it isn't available for me in Steam. I live in Germany. Will it be available for me in the future?
Unfortunately Steam decided our game contains too much Adult Content (we're as confused as everyone else about this), and they're currently blocking the sale of OBSCURA in Germany and China. There's not much we can do about this right now, we have disputed the rating and they disagreed with us, and the geoblocking is due to laws in those countries regarding the sale of games with mature content.
The good news is you can buy the game here on Itch.io, and you'll be able to redeem a Steam key that should work on Steam like normal (we haven't heard from anyone having problems with it, at least).
Started playing this game and I'm -really- enjoying it. This video only has part one of my playthrough but I finished up chapter 1 recently. I'm excited for chapter 2. Awesome game !!
Played both chapter 2, and it was so great. 100% worth it. I love how different both routes feel! Especially Keir is my fav, and he is so cute in his own way lmao. I managed to start liking him even more now, he has such chemistry with MC (especially his good ending was so lovely, in one specific moment). Can't wait to see even more of Mr. Grumpy Giant Thief !
Btw, the game is +18 ( due to warnings ofc) but do you plan to make more "intimate" scenes for other LIs?

14.99 USD isn't the final price for the game since it'll definitely be raised when the game is complete, but purchases are one-and-done. If you buy OBSCURA now you'll get the rest of the Chapter Two and all of Chapter Three as they come out, same if you buy it later, the price may just be a little higher. If you use Steam or Itch.io's app (and we are including Steam keys here on Itch.io now) you'll get the new chapters automatically as updates, otherwise you'll get an announcement about the update and just need to download the updated build.
It's a bit of a "patience meter". Try playing without adding anything to it, or filling it up. There's three versions of a major scene depending on how many points you get.
Ahhhh! This is killing me! I got the best end for Cirrus on part one straight away (yes, I'm probaby a little bit messed up) but can't achieve it on chapter two. I'm pulling the good end everytime. I did get the 'good girl' punishment with the wax and I've been pretty submissive all the way through... Tried being a bit more bratty and ended up on my knees instead lol... Don't know what I'm doing wrong :( Someone heeeelp!
EDIT: So the good ending IS the best ending? Haha! I can finally stop pulling my hair out.

Ah, unfortunately Steam has decided that OBSCURA is Too Horny and tagged it with Frequent Sexual Content, which appears to have blocked the game from sale in Germany. We think this is silly, but we have to play by Steam's rules while we're on their platform. While a solution to this may come in the future, we don't have any control over if or when it happens. In the meantime, you should be able to get the game here without any issue. Sorry about that one.
I genuinely really love Obscura and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys visual novels, though i do wish there is some more backstory to the mc... and also... the mc is a lil, just a tad bit, just kind of a petite-y/n-maiden-in-distress, not much, just a grain of a bit. Obscura is still awesome though! It's just a lil restricting with the mc, not much though! It's still amazing and it currently stands as my most favorite visual novel, 8/10, recommend :)

Hi!! I had a quick question - I found this game a while ago and bookmarked it to check out later, and looked back and saw some of it's now released. I know right now that Chapter 2 with 2/4 love interest's routes are released, and that the game will update more in the future with more chapters and the other two love interests. I apologize if the information is up somewhere and I just missed it, but how many chapters are generally planned for the game? :))
Each love interest has three chapters planned, so the game is about halfway done. If you want to wait for the game to be closer to completion before buying it, we totally understand that choice.
Hello hello! So, I've absolutely loved the demo of the game and I've recently purchased chapter two, but I'm having technical difficulties as my mac just... won't open it. The game downloads fine. I unzipped it fine. I double clicked it to open... and nothing. I'm staring at the bouncing game icon as its taunting me. This is more painful than anything Cirrus could put me through (taking it as a challenge?) Help please??? It just says application not responding.
Unfortunately, I'm not a Mac user so I can only pass along information second-hand that may be able to help you. You may be able to right-click the icon and choose "Show Package Contents", and then go into the folders to find a different launcher that should? work.
In this case, I went into the Obscura.app folder, then Contents, and then MacOS, and there was a file called Obscura there, which hopefully launch the game? I'm afraid I can only be of so much help in this case; this is a tutorial from a dev friend of ours who has been able to use this method before, but I can't test it on my own.
Hello, I ended buying the game through Steam, loved the new chapters for Cirrus and Keir, now is time to see what all the other choices do! So I was wondering if the 'Ending & Achievement Guide' is anywhere inside the Steam files or if it's something only itch.io buyers get?

Hi. I bought chapter 2, but I can't install it through the Itch.io app on Windows. I can only download it and launch it manually. I only get the option to install the demo from the Itch.io app. Can Chapter 2 please be added to the list of installable items?

Whoa, I understand the frustration but bring it down a notch. Itchio does not have regional pricing, our audience is majority American, therefore we priced the game here using USD. I would recommend checking Steam, which has regional pricing implemented, to see if the price there makes more sense to you.
I understand wanting to buy things, but if it is too expensive for you to buy at the moment- save up. Games are NOT a need, they are a LUXURY. If you are in financial difficulties, there are more importabt things you shoud contemplate before buying games.
Prioritize your necessities (food, rent, water, etc.) first and do not act as if it is the end of the world if you do not get it immediately. I come from a third world country myself and know how expensive things are when converted to my country's currency; but I save up for these cases. Which is exactly what I am gonna do for Obscura because I cannot afford it this month. Please, mature a little before you type out things like these; it only makes you seem like a child throwing a tantrum, and learn to spend responsibly.
Yeah but game developers will also be in financial difficulties if they have low prices for their games. Also, this game looks pretty high quality and my guess is you have to pay others to help code and draw. If you like free visual novels there is andromeda 6, cinderella phenomenon, where winter crows go, ebon light etc. I'm originally from Hayastan and I agree with you, neighbour, that we should consider everyone's point of view in things :)
I loved the story before chapter two came out, but I’ve only fallen even more in love with it.
Although there are only two Love Interests available right now, their personalities and desires shine through even more than they had before. Their banter with Vesper is absolutely delightful, and the sheer amount of lore that we can glean from these two routes is incredible.
I am utterly captivated by this world and these characters. (I cannot stop telling my twin things about chapter 2.)

I chose Cirrus’ route first (because I was very curious about how that section of the story would go) and I… actually like him a bit more as a person, in spite of the glaring red flags. I already thought he was compelling as a character, but his fondness for Vesper shone through this time. In spite of the other, rather terrible things he does.
He still absolutely needs to get a hold on how he deals with his anger and he’s still very manipulative, he wasn’t quite as infuriating to me as he had been in the first chapter.
I really appreciated the actual gauge for his anger too. It was nice to see him appreciating Vesper’s ability to be a brat. Even if we could push him over the edge, to the point of… well, him overreacting.
It was a lot of fun, and it was amazing to see him actually get desperate for a change. My heart caught in my throat at that particular scene! (Same with the “finger cleaning” scene, though there’s no CG for that) It was incredibly beautiful.
And the good ending (which was surprisingly easy to get for me) made me gasp out loud. I am stunned, and I cannot wait to see where chapter 3 takes that particular outcome.
(As an aside, I actually cried when Francesco came in. The ending we could get there was so bittersweet. I love him. I love him so much. He’s so sweet and I’m excited for his route.)
Keir’s route was absolutely incredible too. I am in love with the slow-burn romance there.
I also really loved getting a chance to know more about the other characters, including Oleander. I knew that he and Keir had something between them before, but finally having concrete evidence of their relationship was delightful. Although I feel a bit bad for the both of them.
As for some of the great scenes between Keir and Vesper - I cackled far too hard at the "honeytrap" scene. Oh my god. Keir is a good actor, but him blushing is even better. And the flirting during the date also floored me. Vesper is oblivious, and Keir is way too serious with flirting.
In spite of the funnier/softer moments at the beginning, Keir’s route got dark really fast. I wasn’t entirely surprised about the darker endings during the heist (because it’s been made very clear what happens to thieves in this place.) But it still broke my heart. I dislike seeing these characters get hurt/killed, whether it’s all of them or just… one of them.
What broke my heart the most, however, was the continuation end. Especially after the sweet scene with him after getting all of the affection points.
I was so torn with both his reasoning and Vesper's during their conversation. I can completely understand why Vesper is both upset and sickened and angry with Keir. But I also don't necessarily disagree with Keir to the same extent Vesper does? It was such a difficult situation. (I do, however, think that Keir's morality is very black and white with some stuff, even if I do get it.)
But after all of that, I almost screamed at the actual end. I want everyone in Mouse Hole to have a happy ending, and now I’m going to be worrying until the next chapter. I truly hope that there is a good ending in Keir’s route. I love him and his thief buddies. And I just want him and Vesper to be happy and alive ;-;
(Also good job on those very fast changing/hard to get parts when we had to choose answers. It made the experience very stressful, in a good way.)
Needless to say, I’m still utterly in love with OBSCURA. I am excited for Francesco's and Oleander’s routes, and I am dying to see how chapter 3 ends up. This visual novel has been an incredible experience! I love everything about it… and at some point I’m going to have to also get it on Steam so I can get the achievements, and leave a review over there as well.

*Just an option: you can ask someone with a credit card or overseas account to buy it for u, bc I often do this for my Chinese friend. I assume u can get contact with these ppl on some online shopping softwares, but u may need to pay them more money. Hope this helps! ^^

Okay, I was the one hesitating between waiting the game to be finished or buying it now... I finally bought it on Steam !! :) I thought it could be a sort of encouragement or sign of appreciation for the team if I buy it in advance.
So I finished chapter 2 Cirrus, I'm going to do Keir soon. I love the fact that we feel the tension aND THE DaNgER with him when there is an answer he doesn't like. We litteraly walk on eggshells. Writing was a success because I just knew, with one more bad answer, it could turn to shit immediately. It did actually lol (I did the good and the bad end and f***, he's merciless hahaha)
Question! So like I really wanna buy the game cuz the demo was awesome, but I do got some questions before I do, Is the current price the price for the whole game or just a part of it? And if it is just for a part of it, how much will the full game cost?
The price is going to go up slightly as we release more content, but you only need to buy once and then you'll get the rest of the chapters as they release.

Obscura游戏的序章录屏在Bilibili的播放量已经达到了上万，人气很高。我们本地Steam论坛上的评论也提到了对这个游戏的期待。（可惜我不能发屏幕截图XD）希望你们能再考虑一下在中国Steam发布的可能性。

我之所以提想让这个游戏在steam上架，是因为itch这在中国的知名度不是很高，很多人都不知道他，我也差不多是今年才知道这个网站的。我们中国访问外国网站还有付款，真的很麻烦和困难，也要绕过各种限制，就连现在我在这里评论都是通过“某种特殊的手段”才做到的。XD总之就是并不是所有的中国玩家都能够如愿以偿的通过itch来获得Steam游戏密匙。
不知道这样的建议会不会很冒昧，我先提前道个歉。我们那里的游戏如果限制级很高的话，会先上传没有限制级内容的游戏本体，然后后续的游戏主体其他内容将会以DlC的方式放出。DLC和游戏本体组合起来就是完整的游戏。

It's a bit of a "patience meter". Try playing without adding anything to it, or filling it up. There's three versions of a major scene depending on how many points you get.

Ahhhh! This is killing me! I got the best end for Cirrus on part one straight away (yes, I'm probaby a little bit messed up) but can't achieve it on chapter two. I'm pulling the good end everytime. I did get the 'good girl' punishment with the wax and I've been pretty submissive all the way through... Tried being a bit more bratty and ended up on my knees instead lol... Don't know what I'm doing wrong :( Someone heeeelp!
EDIT: So the good ending IS the best ending? Haha! I can finally stop pulling my hair out.

heyy, I wanted to check this game out on steam but the website says that it´s not available in my region (Germany), will this change soon? Love the first chapter btw <3
Ah, unfortunately Steam has decided that OBSCURA is Too Horny and tagged it with Frequent Sexual Content, which appears to have blocked the game from sale in Germany. We think this is silly, but we have to play by Steam's rules while we're on their platform. While a solution to this may come in the future, we don't have any control over if or when it happens. In the meantime, you should be able to get the game here without any issue. Sorry about that one.

I genuinely really love Obscura and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys visual novels, though i do wish there is some more backstory to the mc... and also... the mc is a lil, just a tad bit, just kind of a petite-y/n-maiden-in-distress, not much, just a grain of a bit. Obscura is still awesome though! It's just a lil restricting with the mc, not much though! It's still amazing and it currently stands as my most favorite visual novel, 8/10, recommend :)

Jokes aside, I'm really enjoying the game, the setting, and the characters, and I think you're doing a wonderful job, and my money has been well spent, although I'm not lying when I say it feels short, but that's a symptom of wanting more because I've enjoyed it immensely<3<3

Hi!! I had a quick question - I found this game a while ago and bookmarked it to check out later, and looked back and saw some of it's now released. I know right now that Chapter 2 with 2/4 love interest's routes are released, and that the game will update more in the future with more chapters and the other two love interests. I apologize if the information is up somewhere and I just missed it, but how many chapters are generally planned for the game? :))
Each love interest has three chapters planned, so the game is about halfway done. If you want to wait for the game to be closer to completion before buying it, we totally understand that choice.
Hello hello! So, I've absolutely loved the demo of the game and I've recently purchased chapter two, but I'm having technical difficulties as my mac just... won't open it. The game downloads fine. I unzipped it fine. I double clicked it to open... and nothing. I'm staring at the bouncing game icon as its taunting me. This is more painful than anything Cirrus could put me through (taking it as a challenge?) Help please??? It just says application not responding.
Unfortunately, I'm not a Mac user so I can only pass along information second-hand that may be able to help you. You may be able to right-click the icon and choose "Show Package Contents", and then go into the folders to find a different launcher that should? work.
In this case, I went into the Obscura.app folder, then Contents, and then MacOS, and there was a file called Obscura there, which hopefully launch the game? I'm afraid I can only be of so much help in this case; this is a tutorial from a dev friend of ours who has been able to use this method before, but I can't test it on my own.
I've managed to sort it out! I had to restart my mac and then do what you wrote, and it worked. Thank you for the help!
Hello, I ended buying the game through Steam, loved the new chapters for Cirrus and Keir, now is time to see what all the other choices do! So I was wondering if the 'Ending & Achievement Guide' is anywhere inside the Steam files or if it's something only itch.io buyers get?

Hi. I bought chapter 2, but I can't install it through the Itch.io app on Windows. I can only download it and launch it manually. I only get the option to install the demo from the Itch.io app. Can Chapter 2 please be added to the list of installable items?

Those who are in financial difficulties are never considered anyway. As always. By the way, speaking of finance, since I live in Turkey, 1 dollar is 33 liras in our country. So look at it this way, A few snacks won't make you much money, will it? We pay 300 liras to buy a few snacks. Think about the food, it's 700 lira, If you want to eat healthy, 6,000 lira. Write computer prices in Turkish, maybe this will be better understood. Probably no one will see this comment. Or they will make fun of me and forget. I'm used to all of them. I would love to buy your game, I really like your work and I enjoyed playing the demo. I hope you get to better places soon. Maybe one day I can earn money and watch the games you worked hard on. Until then, ı'll just sit and stare at my moldy walls.
Whoa, I understand the frustration but bring it down a notch. Itchio does not have regional pricing, our audience is majority American, therefore we priced the game here using USD. I would recommend checking Steam, which has regional pricing implemented, to see if the price there makes more sense to you.
I understand wanting to buy things, but if it is too expensive for you to buy at the moment- save up. Games are NOT a need, they are a LUXURY. If you are in financial difficulties, there are more importabt things you shoud contemplate before buying games.
Prioritize your necessities (food, rent, water, etc.) first and do not act as if it is the end of the world if you do not get it immediately. I come from a third world country myself and know how expensive things are when converted to my country's currency; but I save up for these cases. Which is exactly what I am gonna do for Obscura because I cannot afford it this month. Please, mature a little before you type out things like these; it only makes you seem like a child throwing a tantrum, and learn to spend responsibly.
Yeah but game developers will also be in financial difficulties if they have low prices for their games. Also, this game looks pretty high quality and my guess is you have to pay others to help code and draw. If you like free visual novels there is andromeda 6, cinderella phenomenon, where winter crows go, ebon light etc. I'm originally from Hayastan and I agree with you, neighbour, that we should consider everyone's point of view in things :)
I loved the story before chapter two came out, but I’ve only fallen even more in love with it.
Although there are only two Love Interests available right now, their personalities and desires shine through even more than they had before. Their banter with Vesper is absolutely delightful, and the sheer amount of lore that we can glean from these two routes is incredible.
I am utterly captivated by this world and these characters. (I cannot stop telling my twin things about chapter 2.)

I chose Cirrus’ route first (because I was very curious about how that section of the story would go) and I… actually like him a bit more as a person, in spite of the glaring red flags. I already thought he was compelling as a character, but his fondness for Vesper shone through this time. In spite of the other, rather terrible things he does.
He still absolutely needs to get a hold on how he deals with his anger and he’s still very manipulative, he wasn’t quite as infuriating to me as he had been in the first chapter.
I really appreciated the actual gauge for his anger too. It was nice to see him appreciating Vesper’s ability to be a brat. Even if we could push him over the edge, to the point of… well, him overreacting.
It was a lot of fun, and it was amazing to see him actually get desperate for a change. My heart caught in my throat at that particular scene! (Same with the “finger cleaning” scene, though there’s no CG for that) It was incredibly beautiful.
And the good ending (which was surprisingly easy to get for me) made me gasp out loud. I am stunned, and I cannot wait to see where chapter 3 takes that particular outcome.
(As an aside, I actually cried when Francesco came in. The ending we could get there was so bittersweet. I love him. I love him so much. He’s so sweet and I’m excited for his route.)
Keir’s route was absolutely incredible too. I am in love with the slow-burn romance there.
I also really loved getting a chance to know more about the other characters, including Oleander. I knew that he and Keir had something between them before, but finally having concrete evidence of their relationship was delightful. Although I feel a bit bad for the both of them.
As for some of the great scenes between Keir and Vesper - I cackled far too hard at the "honeytrap" scene. Oh my god. Keir is a good actor, but him blushing is even better. And the flirting during the date also floored me. Vesper is oblivious, and Keir is way too serious with flirting.
In spite of the funnier/softer moments at the beginning, Keir’s route got dark really fast. I wasn’t entirely surprised about the darker endings during the heist (because it’s been made very clear what happens to thieves in this place.) But it still broke my heart. I dislike seeing these characters get hurt/killed, whether it’s all of them or just… one of them.
What broke my heart the most, however, was the continuation end. Especially after the sweet scene with him after getting all of the affection points.
I was so torn with both his reasoning and Vesper's during their conversation. I can completely understand why Vesper is both upset and sickened and angry with Keir. But I also don't necessarily disagree with Keir to the same extent Vesper does? It was such a difficult situation. (I do, however, think that Keir's morality is very black and white with some stuff, even if I do get it.)
But after all of that, I almost screamed at the actual end. I want everyone in Mouse Hole to have a happy ending, and now I’m going to be worrying until the next chapter. I truly hope that there is a good ending in Keir’s route. I love him and his thief buddies. And I just want him and Vesper to be happy and alive ;-;
(Also good job on those very fast changing/hard to get parts when we had to choose answers. It made the experience very stressful, in a good way.)
Needless to say, I’m still utterly in love with OBSCURA. I am excited for Francesco's and Oleander’s routes, and I am dying to see how chapter 3 ends up. This visual novel has been an incredible experience! I love everything about it… and at some point I’m going to have to also get it on Steam so I can get the achievements, and leave a review over there as well.

*Just an option: you can ask someone with a credit card or overseas account to buy it for u, bc I often do this for my Chinese friend. I assume u can get contact with these ppl on some online shopping softwares, but u may need to pay them more money. Hope this helps! ^^

Okay, I was the one hesitating between waiting the game to be finished or buying it now... I finally bought it on Steam !! :) I thought it could be a sort of encouragement or sign of appreciation for the team if I buy it in advance.
So I finished chapter 2 Cirrus, I'm going to do Keir soon. I love the fact that we feel the tension aND THE DaNgER with him when there is an answer he doesn't like. We litteraly walk on eggshells. Writing was a success because I just knew, with one more bad answer, it could turn to shit immediately. It did actually lol (I did the good and the bad end and f***, he's merciless hahaha)

Question! So like I really wanna buy the game cuz the demo was awesome, but I do got some questions before I do, Is the current price the price for the whole game or just a part of it? And if it is just for a part of it, how much will the full game cost?
The price is going to go up slightly as we release more content, but you only need to buy once and then you'll get the rest of the chapters as they release.
