What's next for OBSCURA
Hello, hello! First off, we just have to say thank you so much! The reception we’ve gotten for chapter 1.5 and the debut of Oleander and Francesco has been incredible and we are so grateful. We also want to say a huge thank you to our guest artist, @annieanimation on Instagram and @AnniAnimation on Twitter, for this beautiful piece! Now we want to talk about our future plans for Obscura!
First off, let’s talk about the game itself. While we’ve mentioned possible plans for how long the game will be in the past, we have now got a much better idea of what the game will look like. We are aiming for three chapters per character. We’d previously mentioned five chapters as a potential target, but looking at the story plans we already have, constructing the story in five parts led to middle chapters being loose and aimless. Three chapters will ensure that every part feels impactful. Based on our current word count of just under 70k words for the current release (and keeping in mind that these chapters definitely aren’t gonna get shorter) that means we’re looking at a 200k+ final word count.
To go along with that update to our development plan, we’re currently looking into updating our monetization plan. We’re not quite ready to talk about that, but as soon as we are confident about what we want to do we will be sure to post again with more information.
Now, let’s talk about something we’re very excited about: Steam! We now have a page on Steam, with the hope that we’ll be able to release the current Chapter 1.5 build — hopefully with some nice little bonuses — on Steam sometime this summer. Just have to make sure everything is compatible, first! We will absolutely shout to the moon when the game is available to download on Steam, but for now you can wishlist us. Wishlisting games is genuinely super helpful, especially to indie developers, so we’d be grateful for that kind of support!
Now, what to expect next from us? Cajsa should hopefully get the new tracks from Chapter 1.5 uploaded for streaming in the next few weeks. Then it’ll be getting the game ready for Steam and uploaded there. Our current aim is to get Chapter 2 out to all of you some time this year (though, as always, we’ll see what life has to say!), and after that we’ll have to see what’s on the horizon!
Until next time,
The Rotten Raccoons Team 💙🦝

Never thought I would love any of the two new protagonists afte Keirr, ma damn, Oleander was so captivating that now I don't know who I like more! Francesco, too, was so lovely and mysterious, so I can only say that you did an amazing great job! Can't wait for the full game <3
